Carob powder is sweeter in taste than cocoa, so you can therefore reduce the amount of sugar when using carob powder.
Carob comes from the fruit of the locust bean tree. The fruit pulp is roasted and crushed into fine flour, which resembles cocoa in appearance, but has its own milder flavor profile. This makes carob suitable when you want a round and pleasant taste without bitterness.
