The story of ZWERGENWIESE®

1978 Zwergenwiese, a rural municipality in the Swabian Alps, located in the southwest of Germany, becomes the new home of the founder of ZWERGENWIESE®, Susanne Schöning, who originally comes from Holstein.

1979 Invention of onion spreads; start of production of both mustard and natural food, which they sell directly at the weekly market.

1982 First publication of the book "Konserverung – Natural & Healthy" by pala-Verlag in collaboration with Ronald Steinmeyer from Schrot & Korn.

1983 Move back to a rural municipality in Schleswig-Holstein; the first three varieties of vegetarian spreads are created: onion, vegetable and celery.

1985 Purchase of a farm near Hollingstedt.

1989 Expansion of production with a focus on spreads without yeast or mustard; first contract farming on the island of Sylt.

1991 Susanne Schöning operates the first semi-automatic cutting machine herself.

1995 Construction of a new building in Silberstedt begins.

1996 Move to the new company premises in Silberstedt

2000 Introduction of the original ZWERGENWIESE® spreads

2005 Expansion of the administration building with an office extension

2010 Introduction of FruchtGarten fruit spreads with 70% fruit content

2012 FruchtGarten Strawberries are the first product with 100% regional fruit

2017 Fairytale wedding with Rapunzel. Reopening of the factory outlet. Introduction of the Soul Kitchen product line

2019 Large 40th anniversary festival on the Zwergenwiese grounds. Introduction of Zwergannaise, Zwemoulade and Zwen mustard in tubes

2020 Launch of Zwergen Sauce with free-range tomatoes from Northern Italy, apples from the Altes Land region near Hamburg and carrots from Dithmarschen.

2021 Relaunch of the cold cuts series with a new design, improved recipe and a practical glass jar. Expansion of production and administration facilities. Relaunch of fruit jelly with a modern design.

2022 Launch of a completely new product line. Vegan, sausage-like spreads in 3 different varieties, made from German broad beans.

2023 Launch of a new fruit spread. Fine spreads in 5 different varieties, without seeds and pieces.
