Miel du cap

Most beautiful beeswax candles from the French island of Corsica

Miel du Cap is French and means Honey from Cap Corse. A very special place, located in the northern part of the French island of Corsica. A scenic island in the Mediterranean approx. 160 km from the French Riviera and to the south separated from Sardinia. A wild and virgin territory. Marlène runs her organic beekeeping here. She has been a beekeeper since 2012.

The Apis Mellifera Corsica bee is completely special and perfectly adapted to the climatic and geographical riches of the scenic island of Corsica, and at the core of their conservation efforts since the 1980s, Corsica has been committed to protecting this completely unique ecosystem, and therefore there is quite naturally also a ban on the import of non-native bees, an initiative supported by Miel du Corse.

Marlène breeds her own queens in order to have control over her stock, which today amounts to 160 nests. The goal is to reach 180 hives in production (or approx. 220 hives in total). A limit that she thinks is reasonable to perform all the tasks alone and maintain quality monitoring for each of the colonies.

Faced with the increased risk of mortality in a colony, beekeepers must constantly improve practices, minimize impact on the colonies as much as possible, while having a precise and increasingly technical monitoring of bee health. It is with this aim that she raises her organic farming and work with the bees (ECOCERT certification)
