The history of tea
What is tea exactly? In short, tea is a beverage that is made by the simple process of pouring hot water over aromatic leaves. Did you know that after water, tea is the most widely consumed liquid in the world? Tea comes in countless varieties. Examples include: green tea, black tea, white tea, oolong tea, rooibos tea (red tea), matcha tea, fruit tea and herbal tea. Tea is actually understood as the leaves of the tea bush camellia sinensis. Tea originally comes from China, where it was considered a drink with healing effects. The leaves of the tea bush also contain caffeine, as we know it from coffee, which is why it was also a popular drink during the working day. Tea was brought to Europe by Portuguese merchants in the 16th century. Especially in England, tea gained popularity during the 17th century, where it is still the preferred hot drink to this day.
Herbal tea and fruit tea are terms used for tea brewed with dried fruit or herbs, and which therefore do not contain the leaves of the tea bush, but are often added with old medicinal herbs. Here are tea types such as: chamomile tea, rosehip tea, rose tea or hemp tea.
A study shows that more than 85% regularly drink tea. Teas are a good alternative to the popular and caffeine-rich drink, coffee. However, hemp tea and herbal tea in general do not contain any caffeine, which also makes it suitable for drinking in the evening. Furthermore, in recent years, there has been more focus on herbal teas, such as hemp tea, as a natural alternative, which also tastes absolutely fantastic and significantly different from all other types of tea mentioned.
