Biogan organic chia seeds can be used in gluten-free baked goods to hold the dough together, or in your porridge to add more dietary fiber and more "bite" to the porridge.
Chia seeds originally come from Mexico and Guatemala, where they have been known for more than 4000 years. Chia is the Mayan word for strength, and they were considered to be important fuel for runners, travelers and warriors as well as messengers, who could reportedly run all day on a small handful of chia seeds.
Recommendation: Chia seeds (Salvia hispanica) are approved according to the novel food regulation (258/97/EC), as a new food ingredient for use in bread products, which may not contain more than 5% chia seeds (salvia hispanica).
The 5% is calculated on the basis of the finished bread.
The intake of chia seeds must not exceed 15 g per day.
